Types Of Headaches
There are 3 main headache types, all of which have unique treatment methods. These types are migraine, tension, and cervicogenic. The key to creating long-term relief is to first determine which type of headache you are suffering from.
Migraine: This is usually the most severe type, and can include nausea and vomiting, along with sensitivity to light and sound. It usually occurs on one side of the head, and can present with or without aura.
Tension: This is the most common headache type. It usually occurs in the front and on both sides of the head, with a “pressure” or “squeezing” feeling. It can be aggrivated by stress or tension.
Cervicogenic: Simply put, this is a headache that originates from your neck. It occurs on one side of head and neck and is aggravated by sustained postures and specific neck movements. Often times you will experience neck pain and stiffness along with the headache.
At Onward Tennessee, we specialize in providing relief to those dealing with chronic headaches and would love the opportunity to help those wanting to regain their freedom of movement without surgeries, injections, or wasting time with ineffective treatments.
Don’t just take our word for it
See what these patients had to say about their experience with Onward TN…
“I was having headaches about one to two times monthly, which forced me to take medications for 5 to 6 days each month to reduce the pain and help me function & focus in everyday life.
I then met & began working with Zac. Through his hands-on approach, the use of dry needling, and the specific exercises meant to strengthen & address my problem areas, I now have not needed take any medications for headaches in 4 months.
I can honestly say Onward Physical Therapy has dramatically improved my quality of life, and I’d recommend anyone go see Zac if you’re experiencing headaches.”

“Before working with Alexis, I would wake most days with headaches turning migraines, numb arms, & shoulder pain. It made it difficult to sleep, run, and perform daily tasks, and it was a real pain in the neck (literally) that made turning my head torture.
I had previously worked with another physical therapist, who told me not to participate in some of the exercises I love, which negatively affected me and my goals.
I then found Alexis, who listened to my symptoms and goals. After a thorough evaluation, she refined and localized the pain and provide me exercises to help relieve the discomfort and strengthen the weaknesses. She kept me in the gym the entire time.
After consistently performing the exercises, I was able to once again perform daily activities I previously couldn’t do, finally sleep without numbness or pain, and my perform first pull-up unassisted.”
– Meredith C.
“I was out of lifting & any type of exercising for 6 months and I saw another physical therapist during that time but the issue was never fully resolved.
Then I went to Zac and within 2 visits, he helped me actually understand my issues and was able to have me lifting again within a few short weeks.
I’m now several months into pain free lifting and life in general; Zac is an awesome dude full of impactful knowledge!”
